Sure, last weekend was a lot of fun on the north side of town with the Loop closed in both directions.

If you were hoping for a reprise, you'll be sadly disappointed -- only eastbound lanes will be closed this weekend. Still, it should make for some great sittin'-in-traffic fun!

TxDOT is closing all eastbound lanes from I-10 to 59 all day Saturday and Sunday. (Technically, not from midnight to 5 a.m. each day.)

"The closure is necessary for the roadway contractor to stripe the mainlanes and place concrete for the new Kelley Street Bridge," TxDot says, as if. "Motorists may experience delays and should consider an alternate route if possible."

It's a 76-million project that's wrapping up.

Your alternative?

All IH 610 eastbound traffic will be detoured via US 59 northbound or southbound. Motorists destined to IH 610 East Loop can take US 59 going southbound to IH 10 East back to IH 610.

Be careful out there.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
