An afternoon drive-by shooting on the north side left one man dead Thursday, Houston police say.

Brandon Trinidad, 20, was walking with two other people in the 12800 block of Northborough about 1:10 p.m. Thursday when an SUV -- possible a Ford Explorer -- pulled up to them and the front-seat passenger pulled out a handgun and started blasting away.

Trinidad was hit numerous times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The shooter is described only as a black male wearing a black shirt and a black beanie," HPD says.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
