But When Do We Get to See Beckham?

Just relax.

As April 8 approaches and the championship

are about to start their 2007 regular season, team president Oliver Luck is a busy man, looking for champions to fill out his roster of guest celebrities in April aka "

Champions Month

." They'll be trotting them out for the fans all month.

"It's slim pickin's," he says, laughing. "The Rockets were champions [twice]. We disconnected from the Oilers because they left. The Texans have never been champions. The Astros have been great but they never really won the World Series."

So they're mainly concentrating on individual figures. People such as former Rockets head coach and NBA player Rudy Tomjanovich. And winners of Olympic medals and the like. Mary Lou Retton?

First game at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium is Sunday April 8 at 6 p.m. against the Los Angeles Galaxy complete with a raising of the championship banner and a flyover.

The Galaxy will be incomplete, however, since David Beckham won't be joining the MLS until mid-summer after his tour of duty with Real Madrid is up. So fans here won't have an up-close-and-personal chance until Sunday, September 16...as long as Beckham stays healthy. -- Margaret Downing
