Calling All MasterMinds

The

Houston Press

is pleased to announce the first annual MasterMind Awards.

The Houston area is full of artists, innovators and entrepreneurs who are changing our creative and cultural landscape. We'll honor three of these creative superstars on Saturday, November 15, when the Houston Press presents three winners with MasterMind awards of $2,000 each. Winners will come from areas such as visual arts, performance arts, film/video/media, and literary arts, and the awards will be at Winter Street Studio.

Support the independent voice of Houston and help keep the future of Houston Press free.

Anyone can nominate a potential MasterMind. Our goal is to honor current, cutting-edge work being done right now, right here. This is not a lifetime-achievement award, nor is it a popularity contest, and nominees need not submit proposals outlining how they'd use the money. Instead, a committee of Houston Press representatives will evaluate the potential honorees in each field, and then pick winners whose cultural and creative contributions are helping to redesign -- and redefine -- where we live.

Deadline for nominations: October 3, 2008.

To nominate someone, click here. And if you think you’re deserving of the honor, by all means, nominate yourself.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
