The former Taco Cabana at the high-profile intersection of Westheimer and Montrose has been sitting empty for a while, but now it looks like it will be reborn.
The folks at Swamplot are speculating the building will become a Smoothie King; we couldn't reach the actual king himself, but a spokesman confirms to Hair Balls a new franchise will indeed open there, probably by September 23.
Swamplot commenters don't sound that thrilled with the new occupant, and it does seem a tad generic for the intersection that is the unofficial heart of Montrose.

Then again, things have gotten pretty grim around there -- the condom shop is closed and the strip shopping center is partly shuttered.
The size of the old Taco Cabana plot precluded anything grand -- there's almost no parking available -- so a drive-thru of some kind was probably inevitable.
But Smoothie King? Those things are getting ubiquitous.
On the other hand, it's better than a shuttered Taco Cabana.
