Steve Jansen Rhen Richard, tie-down roping and team roping
Name: Rhen Richard Age: 22 Hometown: Roosevelt, Utah Events: Tie-Down Roping and Team Roping
I live in eastern Utah, about two and a half hours from Salt Lake City, in the summer and winter in Queen Creek, Arizona.
I love rodeo for the events plus it's what I grew up doing. I got into it professionally in 2008.
There are pros and cons. You're away from home a lot, but I guess you can be at home working in an oilfield or some other thing that's the hard life, you know?
When I'm not rodeoing, I watch a lot of movies and I train my horses to keep them sharp. I also try to work the business part of the profession.
This is my fourth year in Rodeo Houston. I've made it to the semifinals three times so I've done pretty good here. This is my first time doing calf roping here. (He's also participating in team roping with his brother, Kade Richard.) It's a fun rodeo. I think it's one of the best rodeos in terms of how they treat you and the hospitality. It's a good deal.
