The numbers are still growing but as of Sunday night, August 27, the Houston police and fire departments had received more than 6,000 calls for high-water rescues. Already 1,000 Houstonians have been taken to George R. Brown Convention Center, with other shelters stepping up to assist with the needs of displaced residents. As Mayor Sylvester Turner said in his briefing to the press, calling for patience, “This is day two. There will be day three, day four, and maybe day five.” All photos by Doogie Roux.
