Erica Venegas, 36, Shot at Close Range By "Boyfriend," Bayou Body Count No. 131

Police have charged a man with murder in the killing of his long-term girlfriend last month, and are on the lookout for him.

Erica Venegas, 36, was shot in the head at close range by Edwin Salinas, 23, with whom she had been "in a dating relationship the past five years," police say.

The say Salinas went to her apartment at 9400 Coventry Square about 4 p.m. July 23 and the two got in an argument. Salinas called a friend and told him he had killed Venegas, the friend told cops.

Salinas is described "as being 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds. He has tattoos on both arms and might have a tattoo of 'Erica' on his chest."

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of suspect Edwin Salinas is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
