A man walking with his wife to their car near the Richmond Strip was shot to death last night during a robbery attempt, police say.
Esvin Sabonluis, 27, was killed about 9:10 p.m. in the 6200 block of Fairdale, near Fountain View and Richmond, HPD says.
"Mr. Sabonluis and his wife were walking from their apartment to their vehicle in the parking lot when they were approached and greeted casually by two unknown black male suspects," police say. "As Sabonluis and his wife got into their vehicle, the suspects robbed them at gunpoint. While demanding the victims' property, the suspects shot and killed Sabonluis."
HPD says the suspects, who fled, "are described only as two black males in their early to mid 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, dark skin and thin builds."
Police say they drove to the Fairdale location "in a vehicle stolen in a robbery at 12475 Woodforest on Saturday. In that incident, a male victim was robbed of his vehicle, wallet and cell phone by four black male suspects. The vehicle, a black Chevrolet Avalanche, was abandoned at the Fairdale location."
