Well, leave it to the New York Yankees to steal the thunder from tonight's Boston/Cleveland play-off tilt. It's being announced that Joe Torre has turned down the Yankees offer to return as manager for next season. It's still unclear, at least to me, if this means that Torre definitely won't be returning next season, or if both sides are still just negotiating. Though Yankee team president Randy Levine did say that “We respect his decision. We appreciate everything he’s done. But it is now time for the New York Yankees to move forward, and we will be doing it very quickly.” And to me, that indicates Torre is done.
So see Drayton, there you go. Rush, rush, rush. And by all of the rushing you miss out on the really good ones. I think there's some kind of moral or fairy tale or allegory or something in all of that.
But hey, at least the Astros have Cecil Cooper and Ed Wade running things. And they just inspire confidence in the future, don't they? -- John Royal
