Don't get us wrong -- we love Thanksgiving. Being with family and friends, eating great food, watching football -- it's hard to beat.

But it does come with some trials and tribulations.

We put together a list last year of what to look out for. Not all of these happen every year, but stick around through enough Turkey Days and you're bound to experience them all, like this one:

9. The settling-scores prayer "And Lord, though some of us have chosen to test your love by getting DWIs, or not telling their parents they've skipped half their algebra classes this semester, or think they will get a job by sitting around with an xBox all day....."

The full list, ready to be added to if you feel so inclined, is just a click away.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
