Disgraced former Idaho senator Larry Craig didn't just hurt his family and career by trolling for sex in an airport bathroom. He also hurt farmers.
According to yesterday's New York Times, Craig was a chief sponsor of a guest-worker plan designed to give farmers a stable work force while they transition from undocumented labor. The bill failed last session but will likely be re-introduced this fall.
Farmers in South Texas and across the southern U.S. have been bellyaching for years that the border crackdown has left them with fields of rotting crops and plummeting revenues. Many are moving their operations across the border.
If the AgJOBS bill fails again, we’ll know at least one person to blame. --Todd Spivak
