Still reeling from the death of local artist Jeremy Choate, Houston's fine-arts scene was reeling again with word of a promising opera singer dead from a Lubbock car crash.
Laura Beth Botkin, 27, died late Sunday when the vehicle in which she was a passenger was hit by a truck driving the wrong way down a Lubbock street, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported.
Two men in the vehicle with Botkin were seriously injured.
Botkin was a voice coach at HITS Theatre in the Heights and came out of Rice's prestigious Shepherd School of Music.
Her death comes the same week that Choate, a noted lighting artist, was killed in a hit-and-run; that suspect is still on the loose has been arrested.
