Maybe We Should All Just Stay Home: The Many Road Closures of Houston This Weekend

If you drive on or within the Loop this weekend, traffic is going to be varying degrees of hell with no fewer than six major closures set to go into effect between tonight and Monday morning.

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, there will be only one open lane on the West Loop northbound from I-10 to the 290 connector ramp — which starting tonight will close completely and won't reopen until 5 a.m. Monday. Anyone driving that way will have to detour at Ella, pull a U-turn and hop back on 610 if he wants to catch the other 290 ramp.

Similarly, the East Loop connector ramp off I-10 eastbound will be closed from 10 p.m. today until Monday morning.

Equally headache-inducing are a spate of other Friday-night lane closures. Starting at 9 p.m., I-10 at I-45 northbound will be completely closed to traffic until 5 o'clock Saturday morning. The 59/I-45 southbound connector ramp will also be closed from Friday night at midnight until 10 a.m. tomorrow. Oh, and I-10 westbound will be closed from Waco Street to the I-45 northbound exit tonight until tomorrow morning.
