Milo, Maine Gets More Federal Stimulus Cash For Cops Than Houston

We've been reading all day about how Houston got stiffed on the latest handout of federal stimulus money for cops and were kinda blase about it.

Houston, after all, has gotten its fair share of Homeland Security cash because of the port and our target-rich refineries. Besides us, New York, Seattle and Pittsburgh were also shut out, so hey, no biggie fries.

But then we see headlines like "18 Maine Police Departments Get Stimulus Money."

TV station WGME (Motto: "Yes, We Have TV In Maine") reports Portland (Motto: "No, Not That Portland") is getting the bulk of the cash, but

Others getting a share of stimulus funding are Auburn, Baileyville, Boothbay Harbor, Caribou, Dover-Foxcroft, Fryeburg, Lewiston, Mexico, Milo, Newport, Norway, Sanford, Skowhegan, Westbrook, Winthrop and the Penobscot Indian Nation.

Fryeburg and Skowhegan we can understand, but Milo, Maine?

Milo's website includes "Landmark Features" of the area, and the first two are the American Thread Company and Boston Post Gold-Headed Canes.

So yeah, they've got some important stuff to protect. But we've got the Museum of Printing History, dammit!!

We're blaming Sheila Jackson Lee and Ted Poe for this disaster. If they hadn't been so tied up trying to honor Michael Jackson (Lee) or hop on the Obama Birther Bandwagon (Poe), we might have got some of that cold, hard cash that went to Milo.

We can only hope they use it well.
