Houston homicide investigators are looking into the shooting death of a five-year-old boy who was shot by his seven-year-old brother.

The two were left unattended in a Katy Freeway motel room while their father was in the motel's front office, police say. The older boy "gained access to a firearm and shot his brother," HPD says.

The incident happened about 10 a.m. Tuesday. No names have been released. Update: HPD has identified the victim as Nathan Del Sol.

No charges have been filed, but HPD says "homicide investigators will confer with the Harris County District Attorney's Office once the investigation is complete."

KHOU reports the older brother is autistic, and Children's Protective Services has been awarded custody of him.
