HoustonPress.Com has an immediate opening for a daily news reporter. We're looking for a Houston-based, deadline-capable journalist who has a thorough understanding of the local landscape. We need an agile, indigenous web animal to report on and riff off of the day's stories.
We are not after aggregation or news-wire copy; we want insight, voice, humor and sophistication, along with an innate feel for SEO and social media. You would be the architect of your own work -- four original posts daily, each containing a bright idea of your own as well as, dare we ask, aggressive original reporting.
This is a full-time position with competitive salary and excellent benefits. Interested and qualified applicants should send a cover letter, résumé and four work samples, along with two proposed story ideas for daily posts on HoustonPress.com, to: Houfirstname.lastname@example.org
Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
