This year's gubernatorial campaign has been missing some things.
Debates, for one.
A guy in a chicken suit, for another.
Those two things intertwined yesterday when, for some reason, Rick Perry campaign spokesman Mark Miner decided to hold a press conference at Bill White's Austin headquarters.
Because what could go wrong?
TheTexas Tribune was there
for the epic event, in which Miner stood by two generators cheaply labeled "BPEC" because that's the company that Bill White used to rip off homeless Houstonians to the tune of Seventy Billion Dollars as they suffered from Hurricane Ike, or something like that.
White suppporters -- who, after all, didn't have to go very far -- attended and questioned why Perry won't debate White. They did this partly by shouting over Miner's bizarre bit, and partly by the time-honored tradition of having a guy show up in a chicken suit.
There was also an inflatable elephant involved.
"We hope that today's generator will provide Bill White with some much needed energy to release his missing tax returns," Miner said in a press release. Maybe he said it at the event, we couldn't hear over the shouting.

The Texas Democratic Party put out their own release, including this photo, which we'll sure will go on Miner's wall:
"Not a great day at the Perry campaign -- their attempt at a press conference at the TCDP Coordinated Campaign was overwhelmed by Bill White supporters, calling for Perry to debate," says TDP spokesperson Kirsten Gray.
The Chicken Suit has been unleashed. Let the real campaign begin.
