Roberto Melgar, 33, Bayou Body Count No. 137

An early-morning card game in Guflton erupted into gunfire Sunday, leaving one man dead.

Houston police say Roberto Melgar, 33, was playing cards with friends at an apartment in the 5900 block of Glenmont about 5:45 a.m. Sunday when they heard a gunshot outside.

"An unknown male suspect, armed with a gun, then forced open the door of the apartment and fired several shots, fatally striking Melgar and wounding one of his friends," HPD says.

The suspect fled and is described only as "a Hispanic male in his late 20s, with a tattoo on his right forearm." Police say they have no motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information in this case or on the identity of the wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
