If the Houston Texans go on to win a Super Bowl this postseason, as far more pundits than usual are predicting (or at least entertaining the notion of), their kicking game will inevitably a huge component of their success. Thus, if you’re a fan of the Texans, you had to be ecstatic to see their place kicker, Ka’imi Fairbairn, finish the regular season with a six for six performance on field goals in the 38-30 win over the Colts.
For his efforts in that game, Fairbairn was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 18, the final week of the regular season. As mentioned above, Fairbairn was perfect on his six field goals attempts (yardage distances of 51, 48, 29, 43, 44, and 43 yards), including the game winner from 43 yards out with 12 seconds remaining in regulation.
Here are a few other fun Fairbairn facts, with respect to this honor and his overall season in 2025:
Fairbairn is a record breaker this year
That six field goal performance on Sunday against the Colts put Fairbairn on the record breaking (or tying) map in a big, big way. First, the six field goals tied a Texans single game record, also held by Randy Bullock a win over the Ravens in 2014. The six field goals also brought Fairbairn’s season total to 44, which tied an all time NFL record. Fairbairn is also the only player to connect on five field goals of over 40 yards in a single game all season. Finally, his 160 points scored is the most in Texans’ franchise history for a single season.
This Player of the Week honor set a new standard for the Texans
If it felt like the breaking news of Fairbairn’s Player of the Week honor was a bit familiar, there is a reason for that. Two weeks ago, after getting a pick six against the Raiders, Derek Stingley, Jr. was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week. The following week, in Week 17, against the Chargers, punter Tommy Townsend was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Now, here comes Fairbairn with this past week’s special teams award, making it the first time in Texans’ team history in which three players have won a Player of the Week award over three consecutive weeks in the same season.
Fairbairn is closing in on catching J.J. Watt
As the Texans pile up more and more Player of the Week honors, the list of all time leaders continues to grow. With this most recent piece of hardware, Fairbairn now jumps into a tie for second all time among Texans in weekly awards:
J.J. Watt, 7
Deshaun Watson, 5
Ka’imi Fairbairn, 5
Matt Schaub, 4
Derek Stingley, Jr., 3
C.J. Stroud, 3
The Houston Texans begin their postseason on Monday night in Pittsburgh, 7:15 p.m. kickoff, and the game can be seen on ABC and heard on SportsRadio 610.
