Cut from the same cloth as Party on the Plaza comes this year's concert series atDiscovery Green
. If you haven't visited the downtown park since it opened last April, you're missing one the greenest and absolutely most beautiful facets of our town. In the spirit of our newly spendthrift society, the free concerts are a godsend to folks looking for a family-friendly event or just a place to chill before their nighttime barstool residency. Not to mention they start earlier in the evening, taking full advantage of Daylight Savings Time. Local booker and "King of the Oldies"Allen Hill
was put in charge of curating this year's entertainment. Hill aims to create the same atmosphere as the long-running POP, adding, "With Discovery Green, we have the opportunity to create the same vibe and experience but with tons more grass, dancing room and an incredible breeze coming off the lake that is as cool as the crowds."
Hill also gets excited at the idea that younger Houstonians will be getting their first taste of live concerts, you know, before they get tainted by mosh pits and beer showers. Many locals reminisce about POP and their first times seeing bands like Reverend Horton Heat and others on Jones Plaza. This spring and summer, Hill has groups like Creole zyde-cowboys Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie
