Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a sexual assault and string of robberies on the Terry Hershey Park bike trail.

Damontres Darnell Mitchell and Jassan Rashaad Hughes, both 18, are each charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, according to a Houston Police Department press release.

Police found the suspects Monday, driving a vehicle stolen during an earlier robbery near the park.

"Mitchell evaded officers in this vehicle and led them on a brief pursuit. Once the vehicle was stopped, Mitchell evaded officers on foot, but was later apprehended." Hughes was also apprehended after a brief chase. A third passenger found in the car did not appear to be involved in the crimes.

The rape charge stems from the sexual assault of a female jogger January 3. Police also believe the suspects are responsible for six robberies near the park that occurred between December 14 and January 6.

Anyone with additional information on the suspects is urged to contact the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700.
