Wait, Was That Brad Lidge? We Could've Swore It Was Him for a Second

The Astros continued with the eighth inning magic last night when Luke Scott hit a three-run homer to put the Astros up 5-2. Then, Phil Garner tried playing manager again. He went with Trever Miller of the seven-plus ERA to start the bottom of the eighth. Miller started by giving up single. Chad Qualls then got the Astros out of the inning. Garner then went with closer Dan Wheeler to end the game.

But I think that Wheeler had one of those Freaky-Friday moments with Brad Lidge because before there was one out in the bottom of the ninth, the Reds had come to within one run on a two-run homer. Then the Freaky-Friday magic happened again and Dan Wheeler returned to his body in time to get the final three outs to save the 5-4 victory.

Now, for some interesting tidbits I got from the Astros radio crew. This was the third Astros game in Cincinnati this season. The Astros have yet to lead coming into the eighth inning of any game there. But the Astros have won all three games in Cincy by scoring the winning runs in the eighth inning.

Roy Oswalt was the lucky recipient of the 3-run eighth, and he’s now 5-2 on the season.

Oh, and did I mention yesterday that Luke Scott has rediscovered how to hit? I think I did. But I’m reminding all of you of that again.

The Astros are now 4-3 for the month of May, and 14-17 on the season. And, kids, guess what? The Astros moved into third place in the NL Central. But they’re still seven games back of the Brewers.

Tonight’s game is a special event. Wandy Rodriguez, who is 0 for the season, is facing Eric Milton, who’s also 0 for the season. Is someone going to break that winless streak? Tune in for the first pitch at 6:10 to find out. – John Royal
