Weekend Weather: Sunny Start Turns Gloomy Quickly

Anyone heading to Mardis Gras this weekend is in luck when it comes to the Friday night parade down the Strand. Weather should be just about ideal Friday evening. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the rest of the weekend for Galveston and Houston. If you were hoping for a sunny day to get outside and maybe soak up some rays, think again.

After a lovely Friday with highs around 70, a warm Gulf flow pushes back into the area by the early morning hours on Saturday bringing with it clouds, fog, drizzle and generally very Seattle-like conditions. The entire weekend beyond Friday is expected to be muggy with highs in the mid to upper 80s with light rain and overcast conditions.

By Sunday, a better chance of actual rain will begin ahead of a cool front that is expected to get through Houston on Monday. Chances of rain will begin to increase through Sunday night and we could even see some isolated thunderstorms. In fact, chances of rain and dreary conditions should remain with us right through mid week next week.

The good news is you are unlikely to acquire a sunburn this weekend. The bad news is that you are unlikely to SEE the sun this weekend. For photographers, it could make for some dramatic black and white photography. For the rest of you, enjoy it the best you can.
