Phaedra Cook is eating her way through Houston and counting down her 100 favorite dishes of 2015. It's a collection of personal favorites that is also indicative of Houston dining. It's a scene where a vast range of dishes coexist: highbrow and lowbrow; local and international; cheap and expensive; modern cuisine and beloved tenets — and everything in between.
100 Favorite Dish No. 55, the bulgogi bibimbap at BiBiJo Express, is only one of the terrific dishes to be found in the food courts of Super H Mart. The Korean fried chicken at The ToreOre is practically the stuff of legend among Houston food fans.
The thick crust, sweet and spicy sauce, and moist chicken underneath are what has brought people back to this stand repeatedly for years. Be warned: The “spicy” version is only for those who truly have some heat tolerance. The sweetness helps balance it, but it’s still pretty fiery — some days more than others.
A bowl of pickled daikon cubes comes alongside and, believe it or not, the vinegar helps cut the heat, while the cold radish helps absorb the pepper oil.
Not into eating spicy foods? Toreore offers mild and garlic-topped versions as well.

Toreore fries its chicken fresh when it's ordered, so expect a 20-minute wait. That's long enough to go grab a few items from the aisle of Super H Mart.
The side of the box the chicken comes in says, “Enjoy your delicious moments.” You bet we will.
