Peeps and Cadbury Eggs might be the two most divisive Easter candies on shelves today. Loving or hating either one can easily be decried as heresy from staunch Peep apologists or Cadbury defenders. People don't seem to be as passionate about things like Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs or pastel-colored M&Ms. No, the Easter battle ground is littered with wrappers from Peeps and Cadbury Eggs.
Personally, I hate Peeps. Apart from marzipan, the colored sugar-encrusted marshmallow candies might be the most disgusting Easter candies ever created. And I love Cadbury Eggs, to the point where I used to save them after getting a trove in my Easter basket and carefully spread out the chocolaty goodness throughout the rest of the year. Now that Cadbury Eggs are sold year-round, a lot of the magic is gone -- not to mention the fact that they've shrunk in size and are no longer as runny in the middle -- but I still hold them close to my heart.
Despite my hatred for Peeps, I have to admit the candy has its charms. After all, you can't stage a Mortal Peep Fight with chocolate eggs. And you certainly can't pose chocolate eggs in dioramas and create sordid situations with tiny pink bunnies, either.
So we decided to pit the Peeps against Cadbury Eggs in a battle to measure their most important, most intrinsic qualities -- not simply which candy tastes better (Cadbury Eggs, ahem). Which candy reigns supreme? Read on to find out.
Until the Peeps people make a classic commercial like the old Cadbury Bunny ads, it looks like the Eggs will remain on top for now.
