Celebrate National Harvey Wallbanger Day (and Not with a Screwdriver)

"Harvey Wallbanger" may sound like the name of an insurance agent, but it's actually the playful moniker for a bodacious 1970s cocktail made of orange juice, vodka and Galliano.

Supposedly a certain surfer dude (Harvey) enjoyed this drink so much that he repeatedly ran into his domicile's vertical planes (get it?).

Today, November 8, is National Harvey Wallbanger Day, so I encourage you to concoct this slightly dressier version of a screwdriver and sit yourself down in a comfy chair.

God knows we could all use a drink after this election.

Harvey Wallbanger

  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 3 ounces orange juice
  • 1/2 ounce Galliano

It's amazing how just a splash of Galliano transforms a dormroom drink like vodka and orange juice into something smoother and more sophisticated, with an earthier citrus flavor. Garnish it with an oversized orange wedge and sip under a disco ball for an especially retro experience.
