Eight Dessert Deals in Houston for Summer 2016

Dessert fiends, rejoice! We've gathered eight more dessert deals to try in Houston this summer. From restaurants hip to the Pokémon Go trend and offering free deep-fried brownies for showing your PokeBalls to food trucks offering discounts for riding your bike or bringing your own container, delicious indulgence on the cheap is all around.

BOGO at Hugs & Donuts: Happy hour comes early at the sugar-scented doughnut bakery. From 2 to 3 p.m. (beginning an hour before closing) every weekday, Hugs and Doughnuts offers a buy-one-get-one-free special on doughnuts (vegan doughnuts available!) and kolaches to offload its daily baking. Check the Hugs & Donuts Facebook page for updates; occasionally the BOGO happy hour will be extended to weekends as well.

Free Beaver Balls at Beaver's: For the ultimate dessert deal of the summer, show your PokeBalls at Beaver's (a Poke Stop for Pokémon Go) to receive a free order of beaver balls: deep-fried brownie balls topped with powdered peanut butter, white chocolate syrup and vanilla gelato.

$1 off Doughnuts at Doughmaker Doughnuts: This roving food truck purveying some of the most creative and expertly fried doughnuts (think French toast or fried chicken-topped) in Houston demonstrates a socially minded bent with a duo of discounts: Get $1 off for bringing your own Tupperware or container (instead of having your doughnut served in typical takeout carton), and get $1 off for riding your bike to the truck (customers can combine the two for a total $2 discount off an order).

Half-price pastries at Weights + Measures: Once the Slow Dough Bake Shop attached to Weights + Measures closes up shop for the day at 3 p.m., any lingering pastries, danishes, doughnuts and more will be laid out on a shelf near the Weights + Measures coffee station for purchase at 50% off their normal price. Pro tip: Snap up any and all roasted carrot danishes on sight: They're one of the tastiest items, savory or sweet, that the bakeshop offers.

$1 off Milkshakes at Bernie's Burger Bus. Bernie's Kiddie Happy Hour features $1 off epic milkshakes and fries with a valid student ID. This deal runs daily from 3 to 6 p.m. only at the LaCenterra location in Cinco Ranch, 2643 Commercial Center Boulevard.

$1 Macarons at Oui Desserts: Chai and strawberry with fresh fruit inside are just a few of the 15 mouthwatering flavors of macarons at Oui Desserts. The handmade macarons, which normally range from $1.50 to $2 each, are only $1 each if you buy a dozen (limit of four dozen macarons per customer).

$1 Chillers at Crave Cupcakes: On Mondays from 2 to 6 p.m., Crave offers its Chillers — a blended iced coffee drink — for just a dollar. The Chillers come in four flavors and are bound to go perfectly with any of Crave’s daily cupcake flavors — or treats from Crave's new bake shop, which offers fudgy brownies, chocolate chip cookies, croissants and more.

Free jumbo cupcake at Ooh La La Dessert Boutique: Sign up online for the dessert boutique's newsletter to receive a giant cupcake from one of the two locations in Katy or the third in Town & Country Village. Choose from flavors like Ol' Fashioned (yellow butter cake with chocolate fudge frosting) or Drama Queen (chocolate cake with a raspberry center, topped with raspberry buttercream, chocolate shavings and a fresh raspberry), among others. Newsletter subscribers also get another free cupcake during their birthday month.
