Finding Shade Inside Shade

I was window shopping with a friend on 19th street in the Heights when the summer heat started to get to me. It was a little late for lunch and nothing sounded good. There is something about one-hundred-five-degree heat that makes a person lose his appetite.

Never the less I needed something to quench my thirst and get me out of the sun. What could be more perfect than Shade, not the cover from the sun kind, but the restaurant?

Luckily, Shade's mid-afternoon bar menu was perfect. We ordered the shrimp and crab campechana which comes with crispy plantain chips. The campechana was packed with lots of crab, shrimp and avocado in a tomato and lime sauce that brought it all together. The big chunks of fresh diced tomato were refreshing and, suddenly, I was overwhelmed with gratitude for restaurants that don't close between lunch and dinner.

After a couple of Session beers, we were ready to battle the staggering heat that awaited us outside. 19th Street is lucky to have Shade and we were lucky the restaurant gods were looking down upon us.
