Support the independent voice of Houston and help keep the future of Houston Press free.

You totally trust Houston Press to help you find the best margaritas in town, the best place to watch wildlife in this urban jungle of ours, and the best place to be glad you're alive, right? Now we can help you make the most of 31 other cities, thanks to a new app created by our parent company, Village Voice Media.

The free Best Of app compiles lists from all of The Houston Press's sister Village Voice Media papers, along with other cities like Austin, Chicago and Philadelphia under several categories, including food & drink, arts & entertainment, shops & services and sports & recreation. Check out the glowing review the app got over at Techcrunch. We test-drove it in Austin this weekend and came back a few pounds heavier from all the good-eatin'.

If you have an iPhone, you can download the app or find it in the iTunes Store by searching for "best of." If you don't have an iPhone, don't fret. An Android version is on the way in April, and in the meantime, you can also access the Best Of website on a smartphone or desktop computer.

Check out how the app works in our snazzy video after the jump:

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
