Openings and Closings in Houston: State Fare Suddenly Arrives, Sparrow Flies Away

Lee Ellis of Cherry Pie Hospitality (and Lee's Fried Chicken & Donuts) has taken over and rebranded Pour Society, 947 Gessner, into State Fare, a Southern food concept with offerings like oysters, pork chops, mac 'n' cheese specials and more, plus cocktails designed by Laurie Harvey and desserts from Petite Sweets.

The new concept from the folks at Hungry's Cafe and Bistro in Rice Village is now open at 22762 Westheimer Parkway in Katy; Local Table has healthy, homestyle offerings like meatloaf, gyros and glazed salmon, plus several varieties of pizza.

As Eric Sandler reported for CultureMap, Sparrow Bar + Cookshop, 3701 Travis, has mysteriously and suddenly closed; an almost-diner who showed up to the restaurant with reservations on April 21 shared a photo of a sign in the window that said, "Sparrow is closed temporarily 4ever maybe." To be continued.

The Perry's Steakhouse & Grille at 9730 Cypresswood in Champions has reopened; it was closed temporarily due to the recent flood.

The Four Seasons' Lobby Lounge, 1300 Lamar, is closing due renovations to the first floor of the hotel; on Saturday, May 7, there will be an '80s style party in the lounge at 8 p.m. to send off the old lounge. Until the new lounge opens on the third floor, lounge service will be provided upstairs at Vinoteca, the Four Seasons' wine bar.

Pizza Pi food truck announced this week that it would be closing the food truck on Saturday, May 7, and opening a brick-and-mortar location at 181 Heights sometime this summer, in conjunction with Cherry Pie Hospitality. The menu at the new location will be a seasonal rotation of founder Anthony Calleo's specialty pizzas, plus appetizers, salads, sandwiches and more.

A reader tip tells us that favorite eatery Pho & Crab will soon open a second location in the former La Finca Mexican Restaurant at 11660 Westheimer.

Craig Hlavaty of the Houston Chronicle reports that The Fresh Market will close all of its Texas locations, including four Houston-area locations, on May 18.

The latest Studio Movie Grill is now open at 8440 South Sam Houston Parkway with food and drinks to deliver to you as you watch the latest blockbusters, plus dining and lounge options outside of the theaters, too.

1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizza will open on Thursday, May 12 at 18032 Saturn in Nassau Bay. The nationwide chain specializes in build-your-own pizzas made fast with fresh ingredients.

There's another Victor's on the Green now open at 7900 North Sam Houston Parkway West by Heron Lakes Golf Course.

Fast and healthy chain Pita Pit has announced that it is aiming to open 14 additional Houston locations in the coming months; first up, a Deer Park location at 8015 Spencer Highway later this month.

Here are a few additional openings: Mint Thai Kitchen, 17513 Tomball Parkway, Argentina Gelato, 1100 South Wilcrest, and Royalty Tea, 9889 Bellaire.

That's it for this week's restaurant openings and closings in Houston! Did we miss something? Leave us a comment or send us an email about it.
