La Brocante on Kirkwood is the subject of this week's Cafe review. I was particularly taken with their old-fashioned ice cream desserts. I am sure there is a French name for the sweet pastry crust the ice cream sundaes are served in. They look like taco shells, but taste like cookies. I like to think of them as oversized ice cream cones. (Imagine the horror you could provoke in a French restaurant by picking one up and eating it with your hands.) I liked the pastry shell filled with poached pear, vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, but the "coupe de glace chocolat" shown in the photo was pretty good too. The tiny La Brocante is a great little hang-out too.
