Sampler Plate: This Week In Food Blogs

Each week, we put together a sampler plate of the most interesting links from both local and national food blogs. And after this Monday's nearly comprehensive list of all the Houston area food blogs, we now have even more blogs to spotlight each week! Know a blog we should be paying particular attention to? Nom Om Nom: Well, the title of the blog is either that or Roflhouse. I can't tell. (I'm hoping it's Roflhouse; I'm a sucker for plays on words.) Whatever it's called, Matt's blog is full of absolutely breathtaking food photography and short, to-the-point reviews of local restaurants. See his latest entry on Bootsie's Heritage Cafe for examples of said fine food photos.

Monica Speak: I was somehow oblivious to the fact that one of my favorite chefs (and yours, too) has her own food blog. Monica Pope's blog is -- as you would have probably guessed -- primarily concerned with eating and cooking local as well as dispatches from her weekly (free!) cooking class: Green Plum. Monica writes the way she cooks: Her prose is elegant yet approachable and always informative.

Girls' Pint Out: First things first. Are Houston's blog names suddenly getting designed by clever, under-the-radar marketing firms? I love Aghastronome, I love Roflhouse, I especially love Girls' Pint Out. As its name would suggest, it's a beer blog written by and for women. Like Brewtiful, it's fairly new, but has great potential. Also: I want to be best friends with all the girls in the photos on the blog; girls having beer and having fun is where it's at.

The Loop Scoop: While not primarily a food blog, The Loop Scoop does a fair share of blogging about Houston bars and restaurants. The clean layout is a pleasure to look at, and as an added bonus they regularly feature photos from talented Houston Press freelance photographer Marco Torres.

Bread and Courage: By far the most beautiful of the blogs we've featured in a while, Isabel's blog is primarily about cooking and how food relates to the environment. Her tagline is "Field notes from farm to table," and the blog was recently recognized by In Style as being one of the most best on the Web. But beneath all that style is a lot of substance. I don't know how I've missed this blog before, but I'm thrilled to have found it thanks to our commenters.
