Over at Eating Our Words, we're ringing in the holidays in style...by hosting our very first event for you, our readers. We'll be at Sonoma Wine Bar on December 19 from 6 to 11 p.m. for a holiday wine tasting with so much more than just wine -- and we hope you will be, too.

For $45, you'll get to sample more than 40 different wines and cozy up to the giant fireplace while enjoying music from the Charlie Perez Trio and -- as the night winds up -- DJ Thomas Cauley. But more than just wine will be on hand: We'll also have beer, bubbly and plenty of gourmet nibbles to keep the party going all night long.

And if 40 different wines don't perk up your palate, you can step up your game and purchase a VIP ticket for an $85 Cellar Tasting. In addition to the regular wine tasting, you'll also have a private tasting of an assortment of Sonoma's exclusive Reserve List wines.

The standard $45 tickets can be purchased online, but VIP tickets have to be purchased at Sonoma. Tickets will go fast, so grab yours now. We'll be there to raise a glass to you and help relieve the holiday stress with some red, red wine.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
