Spotlight On: Z Pizza

On my way home from work I stopped into Z Pizza (4010 Bissonnet, 713-432-7219) to pick up a pie. Z's takes a healthy approach to pizzas by making them with organic, healthy ingredients. Obviously, these hippie pies started in California.

I was excited to try a healthy pizza, considering I usually go for greasy, cheesy pizza covered with a plethora of meats. I ordered the California Pizza with grilled chicken. I waited while it baked in the giant pizza oven, which takes up a third of the restaurant.

When I brought it home, I was delighted to see all the meat and vegetables covering the whole-wheat crust. The crunchy green bell peppers, sliced mushrooms, giant chicken chunks, olives, red onions, zucchini and tomatoes completely covered the thin layer of mozzarella cheese. The ingredients fell off my slice as I bit into it. The fire-baked crust crunched as I tried to fit as many of the fresh toppings into my mouth as I could.

Z has a lot of great-sounding pizzas on the menu, but the most intriguing has to be the curry chicken and yam. Next time...
