Tacolandia Complete With Lucha Libre!

What goes really well (other than beer) with a taco contest? Why, Lucha Libre matches, of course.

In its first ever Tacolandia, the Houston Press has assembled 25 restaurants to battle it out in the categories of: Best Traditional Taco, Best New School Taco, Best Barbacoa Taco, Best Seafood Taco, Best Salsa, Best Fajita Taco and Most Interesting Taco.

Head judge is cookbook author and James Beard Award winner Robb Walsh, aided by a panel that includes: Phaedra Cook, lead food critic for the Houston Press; Jay Rascoe,who launched the website "Guns and Tacos" in 2009; Armando Rayo, author of the upcoming book Tacos of Texas; Paul Galvani, food writer and University of Houston professor; and Marco Torres, a photographer and writer and frequent freelancer for the Houston Press who also took photographs for Tacos of Texas. 

Attendees at the event on October 24 will cast their votes for People’s Choice, while our panel of judges selects the winner and the Lucha Libre fighters keep things interesting. 

Act soon because ticket prices will increase on October 6. Currently GA tickets are $25 and VIP tickets are $65. On October 6, the prices will change to $30 for GA and $75 for VIP.
