On Friday, practice for the weekend's festivities at the club's "Party Under the Tent." On Saturday, the bar opens at noon and the revelry -- complete with live music, Irish booze, corned beef sandwiches, Guinness bread and more -- runs well into the night.

Karbach Cook Off! @ Lucky's Pub Heights Saturday, all day 2520 Houston

This Saturday, the Heights location of Lucky's Pub and Karbach Brewing Co. will be hosting their second annual Karbach Cook Off. A $30 ticket will get you tastings of all the chili, chicken and open-dish entries, plus four drink tickets and a souvenir pint glass. All proceeds will benefit four chosen firefighter foundations.

St. Patty's Day Party & Irish Stew Cook Off @ Griff's Saturday, 10 a.m. 3416 Roseland

Over in Montrose, Irish pub Griff's will be hosting a wild St. Patrick's Day party all day long. The Irish Stew, Chili, Chicken and Open Irish Dish Cook-Off kicks off at 10 a.m., with live music starting at 2 p.m.

Since Valentine's Day in Japan has a sort of Sadie Hawkins twist to it, the National Confectionery Industry Association invented a new holiday where men answer back to the women who gave them V-day gifts a month earlier. All sorts of marshmallow creations were made and marketed, thus March 14 became White Day. Kata Robata's acclaimed Chef Manabu Horiuchi (Chef Hori) is celebrating the day with his own dessert creation. For both lunch and dinner, he will be offering his White Day Parfait -- a decadent dessert layered with white chocolate mousse, toasted marshmallow ice cream and cookie crumbles -- for $8.
