Okay, as several of you readers have noted in previous comments on Eating… Our Words, sometimes all these wine pairing dinners are just tiresome. You’d rather have a beer with all that fancy food, thank you very much.

The Strip House (1200 McKinney) in downtown Houston has come up with a five-course meal paired with St. Arnold’s Brewery beers for Thursday, March 25. Besides the food, Brock Wagner, brewer and Saint Arnold founder, will be there to lead an in-depth discussion of his beer. Meanwhile, Executive Chef John Schenk will demonstrate how combining certain kinds of beers with food can actually make the food taste even better. It costs $75 a person, plus tax and gratuity.

The line-up:

Poached Shrimp Cocktail
Smokey Cocktail Sauce
Saint Arnold Surprise Selection
~~~~~
Warm Bacon Salad
Baby Arugula, Marinated Tomatoes and Pretzel Chips
Saint Arnold Spring Bock
~~~~~
Beer Braised Kobe Short Ribs
Cream Corn and Collard Greens
Saint Arnold Elissa IPA
~~~~~
Charred Sliced New York Strip
Beer Batter Onion Rings
Saint Arnold Brown Ale
~~~~~
Classic Root Beer Float with Ginger Snaps
