H-Town Chow Down: Can't beat 'em? Call in the local government to squash your competition. At least, that's the story told by Albert Nurick at H-Town Chow Down, where the Woodlands-based blogger reports on the barbecue wars between celebrated trailer CorkScrew BBQ and its brick-and-mortar neighbor up the road, Pit Master BBQ, which had dominated the local 'cue landscape until CorkScrew arrived. "Apparently the appearance of a master pitmaster like Will Buckman upset Pit Master's apple cart," Nurick writes, "because according to reports, Pit Master's owners have tried to get Corkscrew BBQ shut down."
Robb Walsh: We aren't the only ones getting excited about Goro & Gun. Robb Walsh, food editor at the soon-to-launch Houstonia magazine, talks about his favorite tonkotsu ramen at Teppay on Westheimer as well as falling in love with spicy ramen in Los Angeles -- and his hopes for some similarly spicy noodle soup in Houston.
Eater Houston: Have you fallen in love with the buttery buttermilk biscuits at Blacksmith? Good news: The woman behind them -- chef Erin Smith -- is staying on within the group that owns the coffee shop. Eater Houston editor Eric Sandler reports that Smith is the new culinary director for Anvil.
CultureMap: Tyler Rudick has a roundup of his favorite french fries in town, although there are a few notable omissions: the Belgian frites at Jeannine's Bistro and Cafe Brussels, as well as the Bernie's Burger Bus fries with homemade ketchup.

Urban Swank: Lastly, the Urban Swank girls visited one of my current favorite food trucks, the Filipino-inspired Flip 'n Patties. While blogger Nchopia Nwokoma was initially skeptical of the sweet mayonnaise and sesame seeds that top Flip 'n Patties's steak fries, she was eventually won over, writing that "mayonnaise belongs on fries. End of discussion."
