Mother's Day is quickly approaching, and if you've already made plans to take your dear, sainted mother out to a lovely meal on Sunday...wonderful! You're ahead of about 90 percent of us. Make us all look bad, why don't you?

If you're like the rest of us, you're probably still trying to decide on a place for mom and the rest of the family to enjoy a meal. Need a place that's kid-friendly but still nice? Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse: Treat mom at this Galleria steakhouse, where you can choose from a three-course menu for $39.95 or an a la carte menu featuring a Queen Cut prime rib for $28.95. A children's menu is also available. The three-course menu offers an assortment of soups, salads, entrees, sides and desserts that would please even the fussiest diner. VOICE at the Hotel Icon: This luxe downtown restaurant, headed by the talented Chef Michael Kramer, is offering a three-course brunch for $55 that features such favorites as the Maytag Blue salad, steak and eggs "Benedict" with short ribs and molten chocolate cake. Tony's: The iconic Italian restaurant is offering a three-course brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday for $55. Diners can choose from a varied menu of salads and bisques for their first course and entrees like snapper Sheridan and truffled filet of beef. Dessert is a Trio of Decadence. Fleming's Steakhouse: No matter which of the three locations you choose, Fleming's is offering a three-course brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday for $29.95 with your choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. Along with your meal, you'll also receive a gift certificate good for $25 towards your next meal at Fleming's. Reservations strongly recommended.

Backstreet Cafe: Enjoy the casual elegance at Backstreet with Chef Hugo Ortega's Mother's Day brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 3 pm. The three-course menu is $40 and features the juicy heirloom tomatoes that are in season right now. A children's menu is also available for $12, and live jazz music will be provided by Bob Chadwick. Hugo's: This popular Montrose Mexican institution will feature a brunch by Chef Hugo Ortega. A buffet of authentic regional Mexican cuisine will be offered for $40 per person and features rack of lamb, bacon-wrapped quail and fresh ceviche. Children can hit the buffet for $12 each. Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar: This adorable, tucked-away bistro will feature a three-course menu designed by Chef John Sheely for $55 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appetizers range from ricotta gnocchi with English peas to a sumptuous charcuterie assortment, while entrees feature dishes like diver scallops with lemon risotto and Kobe beef burgers with Hudson Valley foie gras. Prego: This popular Rice Village eatery will offer a three-course menu from Chef John Watt for $42 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Italian specialties dot the menu, from a tricolore salad with hazelnuts and gorgonzola to a romano-crusted veal scallopini with capers and shallots. Desserts to choose from include a panna cotta with fresh berries and tiramisu. Live acoustic jazz will be played during brunch. Reservations recommended. 713-529-2420

Trevisio: One of the city's most unique restaurants, Trevisio is perched on top of a six-story waterfall overlooking the Texas Medical Center. Chef Jon Buchanan is offering a special a la carte menu, featuring items like parmesan-crusted trout with penne marinara for $18 and French toast with fresh berries and apple-wood smoked bacon for $14. Bernardo's at the Hotel Galvez: This beautiful restaurant on Galveston Island is expanding its popular Mother's Day brunch this year to include a buffet for children and additional seating. The buffet brunch is $44 ($35 for seniors) and includes bottomless mimosas and champagne. The children's buffet is $22, and children under 6 eat for free. Reservations required. 409-515-2117

La Torretta del Lago: The signature restaurants at this newly-opened resort on Lake Conroe are serving both a Mother's Day evening menu (on Saturday night) and a brunch menu (on Sunday morning), so make a weekend of it. Chez Roux will offer a three-course meal along with amuse bouche, coffee service and a half-bottle of wine for $65 per person on Saturday night, while Prime will offer a vast Sunday brunch buffet for $42 per person or $10 per child.
