Ultimate Demise

The bender had lasted nearly three days. Hanging out with thirsty country singers from Austin will eventually be my demise. At the end, we found ourselves drinking White Russians at the Westcott Drive-In (6603 Westcott, 713-862-1417), shooting pool until we gambled our last nickel. It was five in the afternoon, and the joint was starting to fill up with regulars: hardworking guys who wait for the whistle to blow on an honest day's work so they can come here and order buckets of longnecks. The sound of breaking glass startled me, and I realized I had taken out my own drink while playing air guitar with the pool cue. The place clearly was starting to tire of our presence, so we finished up the game and finally called it quits on the binge.

Westcott Drive-In's White Russian:
2 ounces Kahlúa
1 1/2 ounces McCormick vodka
3/4 ounce whole milk

Pour ingredients into a pint glass filled with ice and stir. Consult your physician or the Betty Ford Clinic.
