This coming Wednesday, all you need is basic cable and Twitter to participate in Bon AppeTweet, an event sponsored by HoustonPBS and the Houston Chowhounds. On October 27, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., PBS will be airing a series of Rick Sebak's specials on food. Shows include A Sandwich Special and Hot Dog Program, with special local spotlights on Houston restaurants in between.

Follow along that night at home and share your comments on the show or recommendations about your own local favorites by Tweeting using the hashtag #HoustonPBSeats. Every Tweet with that hashtag throughout the course of the evening will result in $1 being donated to the PBS by Whole Foods, so feel good about cluttering up your friends' Twitter streams while you're chatting away -- just warn them in advance. Non-food Twitterers, now's a good time to check out services like TwitterSnooze or Muuter.

A reminder that this weekend is the free Korean Festival at Discovery Green on Saturday, October 23, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you like your Korean barbecue with a side of martial arts, this festival's for you.

Next Saturday, October 30, marks what some Houstonians call "the other Greek festival," held in Galveston. The 27th Annual Greek Festival will be held as usual at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $4 at the door and benefits the Greek Orthodox Church Hurricane Ike Recovery Fund.

Plenty of bars around town are offering drink specials that evening, in addition to the 4th annual Montrose Crawl that's starting at Brasil and Poison Girl at 6 p.m. The Texas Renaissance Festival is holding pumpkin carving and apple bobbing contests over Halloween weekend, while the Chateau Polonez is holding a slightly more formal and dressy affair, with tickets starting at $80. Scary.
