New Orleans is coming to Houston on Tuesday, May 6, and is bringing food, music and dancing. The "Follow Your NOLA" food truck will set up shop at Discovery Green's White Promenade from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. You can come see cooking demonstrations from chef Brian Landry of Restaurant Borgne in New Orleans, and sample some of his creations while listening to jazz music from a Hot 8 Brass Band trumpeter.
Américas in River Oaks invites you to the Herradura Tequila Dinner on Friday, May 9, with master distiller Ruben Aceves. For $89 per person, each guest will feast on four courses paired with tequila-based drinks, followed by a trio of desserts. The first course includes salmon ceviche paired with a Herradura Silver margarita. Next, diners will be served carnitas pibil taquitos with black bean refritos paired with a Herradua Cordúa Salve mango habanero margarita. The third course features lobster corn fritters with achiote-roasted sea bass and arroz paella with Herradura Cordúa Unico tequila. The final savory course includes house-cured smoked duck breast with bacon-wrapped-stuffed quail, and a corn tamale topped with blueberry gastrique and crema fresca; this course is paired with Herradura Cognac Finished tequila. Cap it all off with a "Vanilla Tour" of tres leches cake, vanilla bean alfajores and crema catalan (crème brûlée) for dessert.
The best way to enjoy crawfish is with friends and ice-cold beer. 8th Wonder Brewery will host Crawfish-N-Brews on Saturday, May 10, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. For $20, you will receive a pound of crawfish and three beer tokens. If one pound of crawfish isn't enough for you, or you just feel super generous and want to share with friends, purchase the "Mudbug Eating Pro" package for $30 and receive five pounds of crawfish. Of course, more beer and mudbugs may be purchased individually.
On Monday, May 12, make reservations at Triniti for an Italian Wine Dinner priced at $125 per person. The night includes six courses each paired with a different Italian wine, beginning with a plate of charred octopus with garbanzo beans, bitter greens and green apple, served with a 2012 Terlano Classico. Next, guests will sip on a glass of 2010 Chardonnay from Piedmont paired with vitello tonnato (veal with tuna sauce). The rest of the meal includes dishes of garganelli pasta with leeks, fava beans, ricotto and porcini confit; monkfish with marsala and truffled liver; and lamb chop caponata with a vegetable and polenta terrine.
