For three hours you can spend time with one of the sous chefs at Brennan's of Houston during the summer cooking class series, "Saturday with the Sous." On Saturday, June 29, Sous Chef Jose Arevalo will kick off the summer cooking class series with a three-course demonstration for guests and will speak about his time as a chef at Brennan's, along with the things he loves about cooking. For $65, each person will enjoy Cooper Farm Peach & Granola Parfait with Creole cream cheese, sunflower seeds and Pecan Street rum, followed by shrimp cakes with poached eggs, jalapeno cheese and Creole Choron. The night will conclude with the traditional Creole bread pudding complete with toasted pecans, raisins and a Bulleit Rye whiskey cream. The meal will also be accompanied by wine or cocktail pairings.
On Saturday, June 29, Central Market Houston will offer a $10 wine workshop from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The class, Wine Workshop: Independence Day Wines, is taught by Central Market beer and wine experts who will take guests through six wines perfect for the upcoming Independence Day. Starting Monday, July 1, and lasting for the rest of July - National Hot Dog Month - James Coney Island will offer the next hot dog creation by Kata Robata's Chef Manabu Horiuchi during the Chefs and Show Dogs series. The "Kata Ro-Dog-a" is made with a Panko-crusted, deep-fried Hebrew National all-beef dog topped with scrambled eggs, Japanese curry sauce, pickled cucumbers, pickled red onions, Yuzu Kosho QP Mayo and micro greens, all sitting inside a grilled bun from Slow Dough. Now that's a hot dog fit for celebrating National Hot Dog Month. This new hot dog creation will be offered at the 21 James Coney Island locations in the Houston area.
On Monday, June 24, 14 Pews will host a screening of Hey Bartender, a documentary that follows the life of two bartenders during the comeback of the craft cocktail. The film also features several famous bartenders and mixologists, as well as bars from New York City. After the screening, you can enjoy samples of cocktails and other mixed drinks from a few local bartenders like Bobby Heugel, Justin T. Burrow and Linda Salinas, to name a few. Tickets to the screening cost $10 and are free for members of 14 Pews.
