Upcoming Events: Wine Pairing Dinners, Cocktails at the Zoo & More

On Tuesday, September 17, at 7 p.m., Bistro Provence wants to treat you to an evening with rosé wines during La Vie en Rosé. Enjoy a four-course meal paired with rosé wines from French Country Wines for $70. Start with grilled almonds and tomato tapenade, followed by a watercress gazpacho, then shrimp in brick with curcumin sauce and eggplant caviar. For the main entree, Bistro Provence will prepare seared red mullet fillet with fleur de sel and basil, followed by chocolate fondant for dessert. Each course has been specifically paired with a different rosé. A $35 deposit is required upon making your reservation.

Central Market continues its beer-themed cooking class series with "Artisanal Cheeses Paired with Craft Beers" on Thursday, September 19. Janet Fletcher is an author and co-author of numerous food and wine books, as well as a food writer for several publications, including Bon Appetit, Food & Wine and Better Homes & Gardens; she will teach you everything you need to know about pairing cheeses with craft beer. For $50 you will sample six different cheeses and beers as Fletcher explains the reasoning behind each pairing. Some of the combinations include Saint Arnold's Lawnmower with Mozzarella Company Mozzarella, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA with Cabot Clothbound Cheddar and Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout with Point Reyes Bay Blue.

Flock, The Houston Zoo Young Supporters group, will host Scales & Cocktails on Thursday, September 19, from 6-9 p.m. Enjoy a special night at the zoo complete with a presentation and feeding of the Komodo Dragon, light bites from Triniti, wine, Saint Arnold beer and a signature cocktail created for the event. Tickets are free for Flock members, but non-members must pay $25 in advance and $40 at the door. All guests must be 21 years or older.

If you haven't seen the bats depart for their sunset flight from the Waugh Bridge yet, here's your opportunity. Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Bayou City Outdoors will host Bikes, Bats & Brews on Wednesday, September 25, at 6 p.m. Meet at Market Square Park for a bike ride around the Buffalo Bayou trails ending at the Waugh Bridge to see the sunset flight of Mexican free-trail bats. After the bat departure, the group will ride back to Market Square Park to enjoy beer and food from Niko Niko's. The event is free for Bayou Buddies and Bayou City Outdoors members; tickets are $10 for non-members. Reserve your spot today and don't forget your helmet.

The Houston Cellar Classic returns Wednesday, September 25, for the 10th Anniversary of The Tasting Room. The Houston Cellar Classic runs through October 12, but the Bubbles Blowout is the kick-off event. The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. and takes place at the Uptown Park location. Each general admission ticket costs $40 and includes a tasting of 15 selections paired with foods from executive chef Jonathan LeBlanc. Each VIP ticket costs $80 and includes everything available with the general admission ticket, plus a tasting of 15 Champagnes with gourmet food pairings and caviar. To enhance the celebration, The Tasting Room is also offering a four-course dinner paired with wine for $50 that is exclusively available on September 25.
