Upcoming Houston Food Events: Bacon, Wine & St. Patty's Day

Now through Tuesday, March 17, Central Market, 3815 Westheimer, is celebrating the bacon-obsessed with its first annual Bacon Fest. During this two week long fete, customers are invited to try out more than 35 varieties of bacon, dozens of new recipes, and bacon-centric classes at the Central Market Cooking School. Events include the Discovery Series: Beer & Bacon class on Monday, March 9; and a Kwik Kitchen: Small Bites with Bacon & Cheese class on Saturday, March 14, among others. In addition, enter the store's Ultimate Bacon Recipe Contest (until March 17) for the chance to win the grand prize of one year's supply of Central Market bacon.

March is National Noodle Month. Join the celebration by exploring Thai noodles at Khun Kay,1209 Montrose. The restaurant will be offering a different weekly noodle special all month long. Week 2 features co-owner Kay Soodjai's favorite childhood dish, the Sen Mee noodle (vermicelli-style Thai noodles with rich bean sauce, choice of chicken or mock duck). Each new weekly special can be found on the café's blackboard and can be ordered for dining in or take out. They sell for $10.95, but beef or shrimp can be substituted for the chicken or mock duck for an additional $2.

On Saturday, March 14, Griff's, 3416 Roseland, will be celebrating Saint Patrick's Day with an Irish Stew, Chili, Chicken and Open Irish Dish Cook-Off. Head there for a stellar St. Patty's Day party with music throughout the day and night.

Also on Saturday, March 14, Lucky's Pub in the Houston Heights will be hosting the Karbach Cook Off from noon to 8 p.m. The $30 admission will get you four drink tickets, a souvenir pint glass, and tastings of killer chili, chicken, and more. One of Houston's finest wine bars, Camerata at Paulie's, 1834 Westheimer, will be hosting an Around the World in Pinot Noir wine class on Saturday, March 21. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., advanced sommelier David Keck will be guiding you through some spectacular Pinots from all over the world and in very different styles. Tickets are $60 per person.
