Upcoming Houston Food Events: Tacos, A Cheese Dinner & More

Berryhill Baja Grill is offering its final Taco of the Month: the Mother Clucker. For the grand finale, chef Andrew Hradecky has taken a few things Houstonians love and presented then in taco form. The Mother Clucker features crisp and juicy fried chicken topped with queso, roasted tomato salsa and pico de gallo. All of this gets wrapped inside a fresh, warm flour tortilla before being devoured by you. The taco is available at all Berryhill locations now through the end of the month, Monday, November 30.

On Tuesday, November 10, beginning at 6 p.m., Revival Market, 550 Heights, will be throwing a Latte Art Throwdown to benefit the GV Coffee Trailer Campaign. The new coffee trailer has created a Kickstarter page in the hope of bringing locally roasted beans, creamy Vietnamese café sua da, teas, freshly baked pastries and tasty Vietnamese fare to the streets of Houston. Baristas from coffee shops around Houston will be competing and creating works of art with hot, steamy milk and Greenway espresso starting at 7 p.m. Beer and Vietnamese food made by the GV Coffee team will also be available, so come hungry.

On Wednesday, November 11, celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, with a traditional Diwali feast at Kiran’s Restaurant & Bar, 4100 Westheimer. The dinner will be offered anytime between 5 and 10 p.m. for $45 per guest and $25 for children under the age of 12 (children ages five and under are complimentary). Enjoy traditional delights like dahi poori chaat, paneer kadai and pistachio kheer

Thanks to last month’s rain, Tacolandia, our inaugural taco sampling event, has been rescheduled to Saturday, November 14. Head to The Water Works at Buffalo Bayou Park, 105 Sabine, from 4 to 7 p.m. to get unlimited tacos from a massive lineup of Houston’s best, ranging from urban contemporary to authentic street style. Participating restaurants include all-stars like Tacos A Go Go, El Real Tex Mex, Fusion Taco and Roost. Tickets are available for $30 for general admission ($40 day of) and $75 for VIP ($80 day of). Group packages are also available.

The Pass & Provisions, 807 Taft, will be teaming up with its friends from the Houston Dairymaids for an Alpine Cheese Dinner on Monday, November 16 at 6 p.m. Tickets to the five-course meal, which will focus on cheeses from the Alps, are $65 (plus tax and gratuity), with wine/beverage pairings available for an additional $45. Call 713-628-9020 for reservations.

On Wednesday, November 18 at 7 p.m., Caracol, 2200 Post Oak, will be hosting a special wine dinner aptly named "Shared Colors – Italian Wine Meets Mexican Cuisine." Guests will enjoy a wine reception followed by five wine-paired courses, including dishes like pan-seared parrot fish in blue crab broth with masa dumplings, wood-grilled rib eye with chicharrón de garlic flake salt, and gaznates, traditional Mexican street pastry filled with a pineapple and passion fruit meringue. Cost is $140 per person, plus tax and gratuity. For reservations, call 713-622-9996.
