Among the many Valentine's Day specials at the Chocolate Bar on Alabama is this giant chocolate pizza topped with cinnamon hearts, nuts and sparkling white icing and adorned with chocolate cupids and twin chocolate hearts. The chocolate pizza comes in an actual pizza delivery box and sells for a mere $30.

I also like the gift box assortment of chocolate-covered Oreo cookies. Some are dipped in white chocolate, some in dark chocolate, and all of them are decorated with hearts and Valentine's Day messages. A wrapped and ribboned box of six is half the price of a chocolate pizza at $15.

And if you have a whole lot of Valentines to take care of, you'll appreciate the huge assortment of truffles, chocolate bars and the big honking chocolate-covered strawberries.

Don't forget to get yourself a scoop of chocolate orange peel ice cream on the way out.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
