The braised lamb taco is one of the best choices on the quick lunch menu at Yelapa Playa Mexicana on Richmond, the subject of this week's Café review. The "Express Lunch" offers three courses for $12.95. It starts with your choice of a garden salad with mango and chile vinaigrette or a pile of avocado slices with persimmon and a cinnamon oil and lime dressing.

Two tacos is one of the entrée choices -- I tried the excellent lamb shoulder taco and a less exciting fish taco. You can also opt for a bowl of pozole or a chilled shrimp salad as your main course. Desserts are either flan with rosewater or a Fuji apple salad with ginger broth. Try the brightly colored refrescos instead of the iced tea -- I like the red grapefruit flavor.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
