The 11th Annual Dragon Boat Festival was held in collaboration with the 15th Annual Asian/Pacific American Heritage Association Festival in Houston Saturday, celebrating May as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month
The Dragon Boat Festival featured four rounds of races, from 250 � 1000m, down Allen's Landing. The traditional Hong Kong style BuK Dragon Boats, 40 feet long and four feet wide, carry 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and 1 steersperson, and weigh 500 pounds on average.
The APAHA Festival opened with a Lion Dance by Lee's Golden Dragon Lion Dance Association, followed by performances featuring the Mayapuris, Amira's Oasis, Kru Pong's Thai Boxing, Korean Farm Dance Group, Gypsy Dance Theatre, Japanese Drummers of the Okinawan Cultural Association of Texas, among others.
